The purpose of the position is to polish and/or grind stone or to smooth finish for solid surface materials.
Major Duties:
1. Selects abrasive wheel according to type of stone, finish specified, or step in finishing process, and attaches wheel to tool, using wrench. Measures dimensions of block, using tape measure
2. Wets stone surface, using hose, and guides rotating wheel over stone to smooth surface
3. Moves hand over stone surface to detect uneven areas
4. Fills imperfections with matching colored wax, and polishes patched area, using file, hone, and portable buffer
5. Washes grit from stone, using hose
6. Spreads powder or other polishing compound on stone, attaches buffing wheel on tool, and guides wheel over stone to polish surface
7. Rubs stone surfaces that cannot be finished by machine or portable tool with abrasive blocks to smooth or polish stone
8. May mark code numbers on finished blocks according to work order specifications
9. Examine work piece visually, by touch, or using a tape rule, calipers, or gauges to ensure product meets standards
10. All other duties assigned
III. Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills:
High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of recent experience. Need the ability to stoop,
stand, and bend for up to 8 hours. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs consistently, read a tape
measure, and operate power tools.
