We are currently hiring in Lawrenceville, GA for the following: SYSTEMS DESIGN ENGINEER Successful candidate must work and participate in a team environment responsible for supporting customers in the design, installation support and operation of Scientific Atlanta’s DBDS broadband systems and advanced transmission systems. Must be able to troubleshoot and resolve major SA provided system problems as well as adapt to changing customer requirements. Serve as subject matter expert in one or more areas and help to ensure successful systems integration and implementation, with on-going operations focus. Perform engineering level designs, testing, and configuration activities. Technical operations include QC and monitoring of all incoming and outgoing content, video headend maintenance, broadcast operations control, and remote video platform monitoring. Responsible for technical design, review and oversight of system changes, escalated technical support from field operations and headend support personnel. Provide leadership in development of operations procedures, support tools and utilities. Candidate must have excellent technical writing/reporting and procedural documentation skills. Verbal communications skills are critical to the success of this position. Troubleshooting and complex problem resolution skills are necessary to succeed. Candidate may be in a leadership position and may require travel up to 35%, domestic and International. Experience: Working knowledge of IP Networking, RF and digital video/data systems, video codecs, audio/video routing systems, network management systems, optical transport systems, digital headend technologies, satellite and off-air receive systems, encoding and compression technologies and distributed software applications. Must have excellent troubleshooting skills and be capable of using complex test and measurement equipment. Minimum Requirements: •9+ yrs of industry related experience. •5 + yrs in Customer Relations - must be able to make presentations to customers and document all work in a professional manner. •3+ yrs of demonstrated ability to build relationships and lead cross-functional teams. •5+ yrs of Software/Hardware Systems Engineering/System Integration experience, Computer, Networking and/or DNCS skills. •2+ yrs of experience with Digital & Analog video, MPEG-2 or MPEG-4, encryption, billing systems, VOD and interactive program guides. •3+ yrs of detailed knowledge of RF, ATM and Ethernet networks using TCP/IP. •2+ yrs of experience using video analyzers, audio test gear, network analyzers and interpret data to resolve problems. •Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s degree with 15+ yrs of related experience or 20+ yrs. industry related experience. •Travel 35% (Domestic and International) Preferred Experience: •CCNA, CCNP or CCIE desired •Unix, Solaris, SQL, routers, switches, IP networks and scripting •Qualified on or ability to quickly learn the SA DBDS/DNCS system •TCP, UDP, IP Multicast, HSRP or VRRP, DOCSIS, VOIP and/or broadband cable experience is preferred; Wireless a plus •Experience with Visio or similar tools and MS Suite •Qualified or very familiar with Kepner-Tregoe problem solving techniques •Understanding of various routing protocols •Microsoft expertise •Home Networking fundamentals •RF - Experience with RF and satellite communications is desired Connect with Scientific Atlanta, a Cisco company and receive a competitive salary and exceptional benefits.
