This position is part of a 10 member accounting team working in a service oriented Law Firm. The Senior Accountant is responsible for the day to day administrative management of the firm’s general accounting transactions including maintenance of the general ledger, all subsidiary ledgers, month-end processes and related reporting. Responsibilities also include maintaining and enhancing firm’s policies, procedures, and controls. The Senior Accountant directly supervises the Escrow and GL Accountants. The Accounting Team’s objective is to produce timely, high quality, value added information and service in a professional, flexible, and positive manner! Primary Duties/Responsibilities: Perform GL portion of month-end closing procedures and review monthly financial statements, and related reports Review daily financial report, cash flow, and line of credit information prepared by the GL Accountant Supervise and develop GL and Escrow Accountant; provide backup during absences Evaluate current GL and Escrow Accountant procedures for efficiencies and proper control Review monthly bank reconciliation including the various trust accounts Enhance reporting processes/tools by gaining a thorough working knowledge and understanding of various software applications Maintain fixed asset system and related reporting/analysis (property taxes for 3 offices and annual asset review) Support the annual audit, tax returns, and budget processes by preparing schedules, analysis and other items Provide support and backup to Account Payable Participate in various special projects — import vendor bills such as Amex, Fed Ex, and other high volume invoices to increase efficiencies; setup positive pay with Wachovia; initiate sales and use tax reporting; plan financial system upgrades; develop fixed asset tag system, etc. Cross train with Accounting Supervisor and provide back up supervision to AP and Billing during absence (and Accounting Supervisor will back up Sr. Accountant position and functions) Promote teamwork and strive for perfection attitude throughout entire Accounting Department Any other accounting related tasks as directed by the Controller or firm management Requirements/Qualifications: 4 year degree in Accounting At least 1 to 2 years of public accounting experience, or at least 4 years experience as a Staff or Senior Accountant with a mid to small company Law firm and/or professional services experience preferred In-depth knowledge of general ledger accounting including journal entries, account analysis and reconciliations Proficient with MS Excel and other MS Office products Professional demeanor and high quality customer service orientation Positive, flexible, confident, diplomatic, team player Must be able to maintain confidential information Flexible to work as needed to meet deadlines and requirements Sense of humor
