DESCRIPTION: This position is focused on ensuring productivity, process efficiency, cost effectiveness, learning, issue identification and communication, technology, accuracy, timeliness, completeness of all tax filings and projects within the Tax Function. This position functions as an integral member of the Tax Staff team to coordinate decisions, resources and tax issues. Tax Specialist demonstrates basic understanding of income tax concepts in federal, state, international and tax accounting and has a working knowledge of one of more major areas of tax law. This position is able to apply analytical concepts and rules to everyday business fact patterns and is proficient in tax research. Tax Specialist II communicates well with others and is able to articulate thoughts in a clear and concise manner. This position is able to manage small projects. Tax Specialist is responsible for completing assigned projects under all areas of federal, state and international tax compliance, tax accounting and IRS/State audit defense to ensure compliance with all tax laws and reporting requirements. This position also assists with research and planning for the purpose of minimizing tax burden and maximizing shareholder value. RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform all data gathering, calculation and compilation tasks for federal, state and international compliance as assigned. This includes tax return preparation, schedule M analysis, earnings & profits calculations, tax basis balance sheet rollforwards and reconciliation, intercompany analysis, and international tax adjustment calculations. (30%) Perform all research, data gathering, calculation and documentation for research and planning projects as assigned. This includes research and documentation of tax law with regard to compensation and benefits, transactions, treasury products and mergers and acquisitions. (30%) Perform all data gathering, calculation and compilation tasks for tax accounting as assigned. This includes tax account rollforwards, provision and effective tax rate calculation. (30%) Seek learning opportunities and demonstrate increased capabilities. (2%) Assist with the identification of process, performance, technology, and workload issues with other tax staff. (2%) Perform detailed review of assigned tax tasks to ensure accuracy, timeliness, completeness, and proper reporting of issues and positions. (2%) Assist other tax staff positions during heavily concentrated work periods if needed.(2%) Provide emergency backup for other tax staff positions in case of unexpected turnover or absence. (2%) QUALIFICATIONS: Education Required Minimum requirements include a Bachelors Degree in Accounting and knowledge of accounting principles and corporate tax law. Education Preferred Master of Tax is preferred. Experience Required Experience in work environment dealing with large corporate tax affairs which may be in industry, Big 4 accounting firm or similar surroundings - at least 2 years required Experience Preferred Same as above with 2-5 years preferred.
