Position Purpose:An Tax Accountant is responsible for assisting with the Tax Department’s overall effort to meet its income and franchise tax compliance responsibilities.Individually, an Income Tax Accountant will be responsible for the federal and state income and franchise tax compliance and work-papers for a number of entities within the South consolidated group.In addition, an Income Tax Accountant will be called upon to occasionally prepare and review city and county licenses and state annual reports.In the future, Income Tax Accountants may either assist with or be responsible for the preparation of a number of partnership federal and state returns. Working Relations Position reports to:Supervisor and Group Director Position supervises:Assist in the supervision of group Tax Assistant(s) Internal relationships:Accounting, Legal, and Accounts Payable. Position Requirements Licenses or Certificates: CPA preferred Total education, vocational training and experience:(minimum requirements of candidate) * Four year Accounting degree required. * 1 year tax experience OR Masters in Tax OR 12 months Corporation Accounting experience. Skills and abilities: ·Must have knowledge of corporate and partnership accounting and tax treatment and be familiar with corporate and partnership tax returns and supporting schedules. ·Applicant must be analytical and have strong computer skills; experienced with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and Internet Explorer.Preferred for candidate to have some experience working in and with a tax software application (e.g.,InSource/Fast-Tax). ·Excellent communication skills are required.Must be able to express thoughts and ideas clearly and efficiently verbally and in writing. Proficiency or productivity standards: Candidates must be able to work within and meet deadlines.Good organizational skills are necessary to schedule work and complete responsibilities within prescribed time schedules.Applicants must be able to utilize software applications and tools to efficiently complete assignments. Primary and Secondary Position Requirements Primary position responsibilities: ·Prepare federal, state and local tax returns for corporate and partnership entities and their locations. ·Prepare work-paper files for each assigned entity to document tax adjustments.In preparing work-paper files, Income Tax Accountants will perform account activity analysis and research unusual account activity. ·Examine accounts and records and compute taxes owed according to prescribed rates, laws, and regulations. ·Advise management regarding effects of business activities on taxes, and on strategies for minimizing tax liability. ·Ensure that establishment complies with periodic tax payment, information reporting and other taxing authority requirements. ·Work with Auditors ·Compile information for quarterly tax estimates ·Prepare franchise tax filings ·Prepare analysis work for tax strategies ·Review and when necessary complete miscellaneous tax filings Secondary position responsibilities: Assist in corporate tax planning.Conceive of ideas for creating efficiencies within the Tax Department Machines/equipment used: Personal computer, 10-key calculator, photocopier, fax machine, et. al. Environmental conditions: Cubicle office environment. Physical requirements: Must have the ability to sit and focus on task for long periods of time. Degree of supervision provided to position: Someone employed at this level should receive a moderate level of supervision until they have been trained on our activities, systems and procedures.After that point, supervision should be fairly minimal.
