What is the Tap Project?
Clean and plentiful drinking water is a daily privilege million take for granted.Yet the lack of clean and accessible drinking water is the second largest killer worldwide of children under five.As the world’s leading children’s organization, which has saved more young lives than any other humanitarian organization in the world, UNICEF understands the critical role water plays in a child’s survival.

As a way to raise awareness to this crucial issue, the U.S. Fund for UNICEF is launching a nationwide effort the week leading up to World Water Day, called the Tap Project, a campaign that celebrates the clean and accessible tap water available as an everyday privilege to millions while helping UNICEF provide safe drinking water for children around the world. On World Water Day in 2007, in which Sarah Jessica Parker served as spokesperson, New York City diners were invited to pay $1 for the tap water they usually enjoy for free and the program achieved great success; raising over $100,000 in a single day!

The Tap Project will expand to a national, week long campaign March 16 – 22nd in 2008, inviting communities around the country to replicate the program.Already in Atlanta, we have restaurants such as the Buckhead Life Group, Concentrics Restaurants, Antica Posta, Baraonda, Enoteca Carbonari and Tierra signed up.And more are coming on board every day!Our goal in Atlanta is to have 200+ restaurants participate with over 100 UNICEF volunteers helping to recruit these restaurants, in hopes of raising $250,000 for the Tap Project.

How can you help?
The U.S. Fund for UNICEF is inviting committed volunteers to:
•Participate in restaurant recruitment
•Promote the Tap Project in Atlanta
•Educate the public about water & sanitation issues
•Recruit other volunteers to join in the Tap efforts
•Dine out and drink tap water during the week of March 16-22nd

The time commitment is up to you.You can spend as little as an hour or two a week….to as many hours as you want.

What next?
